The expansion of broadband in Germany is picking up pace: with Fibre To The Home (FTTH) emblazoned on their banner, the federal government and network operators are investing billions in extending the fibre optic network to end-user households as well as making investments in the development and spread of the future 5G generation of mobile telecommunications. In its annual report for 2016, the Bundesnetzagentur, Germany’s regulatory authority for the nation’s networks, identified a significant rise in the volume of data transmitted, with transmission volume in the fixed-line network almost doubling over a two-year period.
